Chronology of Development
This device has been designed in the 90's to perform biomechanical analysis of gait by accelerometry. This was first used for horses and then for the study of aging people, sportsmen and patients suffering from Parkinson, arthrosis, obesity, fibromyalgia… The device is commercially available. A normative database for adults is also available. Further information is accessible at: www.centaure-metrix.com or in various publications (Barrey, Auvinet et al).

Description
This gait analysis system (Locometrix-2) includes three accelerometers in a small and light box and a data logger. The apparatus is incorporated in a semi-elastic belt fasten around the subect waist close to his gravity center. Signals are recorded with a sampled frequency of 100 Hz, then transferred to a computer and anlysed with a specific software. Several gait varaibles are computed on samples of 10 s stationnary gait: walking velocity, stride frequency, stride length, symetry and regularity indexes, mechanical power and high frequency shocks.
Purpose/Use
The device is used to assess gait quality on short term periods. It can also be used for patient activity recording during a full day.
