Chronology of Development
Scale development was in three stages. Stage I: preliminary pool of 53 items generated from patient interviews, literature review, existing functional rating scales and expert opinion. Stage II: items administered to 85 patients with muscular dystrophy and resulting data analysed to construct the MDFRS, which encompassed four unidimensional constructs: mobility, basic activities of daily living, arm function, and impairment. Stage III: rating scale measurement properties assessed in 121 new muscular dystrophy patients.
