General Information
| Objectives |
This is a measure of limitations people with peripheral neuropathies may experience during common activities of daily living. It has two sections; one for the lower limb (leg scale), focussed upon mobility, and one for the upper limb (arm scale). Sub-scores are calculated manually by summing scores within each sub-section. Total score is calculated manually by summing sub-sections.

| Chronology of Development |
The ONLS is a modification of an older tool used in peripheral neuropathy , the Overall Disability Sum Score (ODSS). Several items on the ODSS were modified to address the ceiling effect observed in clinical practice and to add clarity. New items were then shown to members of the British peripheral nerve society. These processes resulted in the production of a new scale, the overall neuropathy limitations scale (ONLS).

If the ONLS is to be utilised as an interview, no equipment is required. However, the ONLS can also be observed rather than based upon interview scores. This may be of use to people with communication or cognitive difficulties. If it is to be based upon an observed score the following equipment is required: a key and lock, hair brush, knife and fork (or other eating implements eg chopsticks) and a shirt with buttons and zips.
